Santoprene-TPE-TPV-Tubing07-Santopseal

Santoprene TPV belongs to a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE). Santoprene TPV is specifically enhanced for the higher performance and durability. TPEs refer to a wide range of rubber-like materials that can, unlike traditional thermoset rubber, be further processed and recycled during the manufacturing process.

Specifically, Santoprene is a thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV), which means it’s a polypropylene (PP) thermoplastic matrix that includes dynamically vulcanized EPDM rubber. In simpler terms, Santoprene is made by breaking EPDM rubber into particles and then encased in a polypropylene matrix.

At SantopSeal, We manufacture various custom extruded profiles using Santoprene TPV and EPDM both, with superior quality according to customer requirements. Our rubber products range from custom extruded seals, gaskets, tubing, o ring cord, and rubber sheet manufactured from Santoprene and EPDM. We meet our customer’s requirements with minimal cost, great quality, and a very short lead time in the market. Although PP contains rubber-like properties, it offers simple, flexible part design and ease of manufacturing. In essence, Santoprene TPV is an elastomer with high-performance properties and the ease of plastic processing. Besides its long-term performance, it has proven to be a reliable polymer for flexible engineered parts. Santoprene TPV has become the global standard for engineered TPV due to its potential to reduce system costs and increase sustainability.

Santoprene TPV integrates the advantages of vulcanized rubber and thermoplastics to offer a sealing solution that is durable yet attractive for a wide range of industries, including automotive, electrical, construction, Food processing and healthcare. It is possible to make the seals and gaskets using Santoprene material.  Using Santoprene, the various Custom extruded seals, gaskets, U channels, edge guards, weatherstripping, rubber tubing, o ring cords, Santoprene rubber sheets, Santoprene fda tubing, Santoprene setting blocks, EPDM sponge rubber seal, d-shaped round rubber seals are made and is widely used across many industries. Santoprene TPV is already replacing traditional thermoset rubbers like EPDM, Neoprene and Nitrile Buna.

Santoprene TPV, manufactured by ExxonMobil, is available in various grades. Santoprene durometer hardness starts from 35 shores A to up to 95 shore A and up to 50 Shore D. Santoprene is also available in Food grade NSF 61, NSF 51 grades and is also available in US Class vi medical grades. Additionally, Santoprene offers many grades that range from UV resistant to Flame retardant with various UL rating.

How does Santoprene™ differ from EPDM?

Despite sharing many similarities with EPDM, Santoprene is much easier to manufacture, produces a superior compound, and is lighter. Santoprene is useful in diverse industries in thermoplastic manufacturing for its exceptional performance, reliability, and ease of use. In simpler words, Santoprene is a more advanced version of EPDM which is enhanced for performance. So, Santoprene outperforms the EPDM in many ways.

Santoprene has a significantly higher performance than a EPDM thermoset rubber in normal as well as higher temperature. Santoprene can withstand upto 275 F. Santoprene is highly durable in a harsh environments and can withstand continuous bending. That is why Santoprene is widely used as a peristaltic pump tubing. Santoprene has the great chemical compatibility and can withstand most acids and chemicals. Santoprene is also great for outdoor use as well, because Santoprene UV grades are capable to resist degradation from UV rays, Ozone and heat.

With Santoprene, you can create rubber parts with the appearance, feel, and behavior of EPDM rubber while using traditional thermoplastic processing equipment. Santoprene™ also offers a 30% weight reduction advantage over EPDM rubber for similar parts.

Santoprene can be processed like the other TPEs. Using various manufacturing methods, many parts can be made, which is used all over the industry and in many consumer applications as well.  A few other applications are as follows:

Extrusion and blow molding

Santoprene offers excellent elastomeric properties and excellent colorability, making it an excellent choice for hard-grade extrusion and molding.

Specialty molding

Santoprene TPV exhibits distinct advantages over other TPE products in terms of processability, aesthetics, UV resistance, and excellent color stability with excellent processability.

Flame retardant

It is immune to UV degradation and resistant to copper catalysts.

Detergent-resistant

Santoprene maintains its shape and properties well in the presence of common dishwasher and washing machine detergents. Santoprene is also resistant to strong chemicals, grease, and oil, making it perfect for cook lines where both use and cleaning are regular.

Extrusion

Santoprene TPV is a great compound for extrusion production since it is possible to extrude them with single or complicated profiles, including soft and stiff components. It is useful for making various Custom extruded seals, rubber Santoprene gaskets, rubber U channels, edge guards, rubber weather stripping, rubber Santoprene tubing, o ring and cords, Santoprene rubber sheets, Santoprene fda tubing, Santoprene setting blocks.

Potable water

Santoprene is certified for NSF 61 and NSF 51 and is widely used to manufacture standard rubber hollow tubing, Food tubing and Santoprene potable water tubing, and EPDM rubber tubing.

Non-fatty Food Contact

Santoprene TPV complies with FDA regulations on non-fatty food contact, is NSF 51 certified.

Molding

Santoprene is processable using the same technique as common thermoplastics. You can use it in injection molding, often producing better flexibility and a shorter down-cycle time.

Recyclability

The majority of Santoprene TPV materials are recyclable during the manufacturing process due to their reusable ability.
